Turcite B Applications on Machine Tools
The same strip is used differently on a machining centre, a lathe, a mill and a grinder. These pages cover the interfaces that actually wear, the loads each slide sees, and how the liner is specified and finished on that machine type.
- CNC Machining Centres — Turcite B sheet is bonded to the slideways of CNC machining centres so that a low-friction PTFE face replaces metal-on-metal contact on the feed axes.
- Lathe Guideways — On a lathe the carriage rides the bed ways for the whole life of the machine, and the bed is the first surface to wear.
- Milling Machines — Milling machines load their guideways in a different direction to a lathe: the cutting force pushes the table up or down against the ways and tries to lift the knee, so the liner has to stay bonded under alternating load as well as slide smoothly.
- Grinder Guideways — Grinders are the machines where guideway quality is most visible in the finished part, because the table has to travel smoothly at very low feed while the wheel removes microns.
- Machine Tool Rebuilds — For a rebuild shop, Turcite B is a tool rather than a product: it is the layer that lets a worn machine be brought back to geometry without replacing the castings.
